Count Your Blessings

Shortly after I wrote the post "Seeking Out", I set off for a trip to France and the neighbouring countries.  The trip, lasting for 63 days, gave me a lot of materials for thought.  It was fruitful.

One of the things I learnt is about counting blessings, or more precisely, to record blessings.  I find that this is another very good way to grow one's faith alongside prayer, meditation, and the like.

As I was travelling alone for the entire trip, I used Skype to maintain communication with my wife almost on a daily basis.  I found Skype was fantastic for the purpose. It was economical to do and particularly meaningful when there was a time difference of some 8 to 9 hours.

Very quickly into the journey, I formed the habit of doing daily journals.  For me, it was simply a matter of recording key daily events and then transcribing them to Skype for my wife.  Before I knew it, I started to include thoughts and happenings en route that had some special meaning to me.

The surprise came when I later revisited these passages recalling the many instances that things somehow got sorted out.  It couldn't have been a matter of chance or co-incidence.  I believe that they are God's blessings.

Knowing that God is around and watching over me  is so reassuring.  It really boosts my spirit and faith.  If you are a Christian, I am sure you would know what I am talking about.

In hindsight, I wouldn't have come to this level of realization if not because of the record keeping along the way.  I researched the net recently and have chosen two relevant clips from YouTube.  Both have beautiful lyrics and singing.  Hope you find them encouraging too.
